Il giorno di San Valentino sono stati assegnati i Zankyou International Wedding Awards 2011, importante evento internazionale, sponsorizzato da Pronovias, per premiare i 99 migliori siti web e portali di nozze del mondo, che si siano distinti per la qualitá dei contenuti. La selezione è stata curata dalla redazione di Zankyou, composta da giornaliste e blogger provenienti da 15 diversi Paesi.

La bella notizia è che il blog di we:plan risulta tra i vincitori!!! WOW!!! Ma soprattutto Grazie!

[ITA] Arianna, psicologa che si trova a NY per un tirocinio, ci ha raccontato il matrimonio di una coppia di suoi amici che si è svolto qualche settimana fa nella magica Grande Mela avvolta nel freddo! La parola ad Arianna.

Prendete due ragazzi che nel sangue hanno l’amore per i viaggi e nel cuore quello che provano l’uno per l’altra. Aggiungete che, come tanti giovani al giorno d’oggi, non sono di certo ricchi e non hanno voglia di spendere tutti i loro risparmi in una giornata, per quanto importante sia. Metteteci un pizzico di fantasia, originalità e briciole di sogni, ed ecco che otterrete un ottimo risultato: un matrimonio a New York all’insegna della filosofia “Non bisogna essere ricchi per essere dei signori”!

Io, in quanto amica “in loco” della sposa, l’ho aiutata nell’organizzazione, improvvisandomi wedding planner d’emergenza e divertendomi non poco!

La parte più intensa (e fisicamente distruttiva) è stata la ricerca dell’abito della sposa. Esclusa l’opzione dell’abito tradizionale, è iniziata la caccia al tesoro fra un negozio di vestiti e l’altro, partendo da Macy’s (nel famigerato Black Friday), passando fra le varie sedi di H&M, Forever 21, Strawberries & company, per arrivare anche all’insospettabile American Eagle – dove la sposa ha “rischiato” di trovare quello giusto – concludendo il tutto con un ritorno al punto di partenza. E’ stato in una deserta domenica mattina, infatti, che da Macy’s il vestito perfetto è apparso… un misto fra tradizione e stile giovane e frizzante, con in più il pregio di essere particolarmente economico: 40$ per un abito nuziale, ci credereste mai?

Cruciale è stata la scelta del ristorante: da bravi italiani, era importante che il cibo fosse più gustoso possibile, ma, in quanto stranieri che si sposano in una città mozzafiato, l’altro elemento fondamentale era che il posto godesse di una visuale suggestiva. Dopo qualche prova e vari ragionamenti, si è optato per il “The View”, locale molto elegante situato in cima ad un grattacielo, famoso perché ruota di 360° gradi, offrendo una vista di Manhattan by night che lascerebbe a bocca aperta chiunque! Il suggerimento è però quello di usare la bocca per assaporare gli ottimi piatti proposti… una meraviglia per gli occhi e soprattutto per il palato, lo chef ha saputo stupirci con effetti speciali!

Ma fra il vestito ed il ristorante, un altro piccolo grande sogno è divenuto realtà: gli sposi, all’insaputa dei propri genitori, hanno noleggiato una limousine (con tanto di champagne per brindare), che per tre ore ha percorso le strade di Manhattan in lungo e in largo, sostando nei suoi luoghi più belli per permettere ai passeggeri di scendere e scattare tutte le foto che desideravano.

E’ stata una di quelle giornate impossibili da dimenticare: un matrimonio così è solo per chi ha il coraggio di volare alto sulle ali della fantasia e di trasformarla in realtà!

[ENG] Arianna, who is in New York for an internship in psychology, told us the story of the wedding a couple of his friends attended a few weeks ago in the magical Big Apple wrapped in the cold! Words from Arianna.

Take two young people who love travelling and love each other, add with that, as most young people nowadays, no money and who don’t want to spend all their savings on one day, no matter how important it is. Use a hint of fantasy, creativity and a crumb of dreams, and you’ll have an excellent result: a wedding in New York, following the “You don’t need to be rich in order to be a lord” philosophy.

I helped the bride organize the day, since I was her “in loco” friend, acting as an emergency wedding planner and having a lot of fun!

The most intense (and physically destructive) part was the search of the bridal dress. After excluding the traditional wedding gown, the treasure hunt began starting from Macy’s (on the notorious Black Friday), and hitting the various other stores like H&M, Forever 21, Strawberries and company, and checking out the unsuspected American Eagle – where the bride actually “risked” to find the right one – to end up at the starting point. It was on an empty Sunday morning at Macy’s, in fact, that the perfect dress appeared… a mix between tradition and young and sparkling style, and it was amazingly cheap: $40 for a wedding dress, can you believe it?

The choice for the restaurant was crucial: being Italians, it was important that the food was as tasty as possible, but being also foreigners getting married in an amazing city, the other important prerogative was to have an evocative view from the place. After some trials and reasoning, we chose “The View”, a stylish restaurant located on the top of a skyscraper, famous because it rotates on itself, offering a Manhattan-by-night view which would leave anyone with their jaw-dropped. The suggestion is, though, to use your mouth to taste the excellent dishes they serve… they were wonderful both for the view and the food, and the chef surprised us with special effects!

Between the dress and the restaurant, another dream came true: the newlyweds, without telling to their parents, rented a limousine (including champagne for toasts), which went around Manhattan for three hours, stopping at its most beautiful spots so that passengers could take all the pictures they wanted.

[ITA] Vi abbiamo promesso i racconti sulla cerimonia di Roberto e Federica, il matrimonio dello scorso 13 giugno!

Per le planners di we:plan questa data sarà per sempre ricordata come la prima volta che hanno assistito ad una tipica cerimonia del sud! Questo matrimonio non assomiglia a nessuno di quelli a cui abbiamo partecipato, né organizzato! Credevamo, sinceramente, che sarebbe stata una lunga maratona a tavola. Gli sposi ci avevano avvisato che si trattava di una cosa molto particolare, ma non ci abbiamo creduto finché non ci siamo ritrovate travolte dal calore degli ospiti.

L’ingresso scenografico preparato con gli sposi nella sala del pranzo doveva darci qualche indizio, ma noi non lo abbiamo colto! Sul grande schermo a nostra disposizione, abbiamo proiettato un video che ha raccontato la loro storia, dall’infanzia al giorno prima del matrimonio. L’idea originale è stata in chiusura di video: gli sposi sono apparsi con gli stessi vestiti della “foto da fidanzati” e si sono rivolti direttamente agli ospiti in sala. Hanno camminato verso lo schermo e poi sono apparsi da dietro lo schermo che nel frattempo veniva sollevato sulle note di “Sweet child of mine” dei Guns&Roses…

Il pranzo è vero, è stato lungo, ma ogni pausa tra una portata e l’altra era una scusa per potersi alzare, ballare, fare le congratulazioni agli sposi, fare discorsi, scherzi e ridere, ridere tanto! Tutto molto coinvolgente e dinamico, per nulla noioso! Complice la band arrivata da Matera “Saverio Pepe e i timidi”! Eccezionali, simpatici, scatenati, scenici… sono piaciuti a tutti, hanno fatto ballare tutti, compresa la simpaticissima zia sul cubo. Insomma un vero divertimento per tutti. Che dire, un successone!!

L’allestimento è stato un omaggio alle farfalle: prati verdi rigogliosi di fiori colorati e farfalle sono stati utilizzati come centritavola e per ricoprire il tavolo del tableau de mariage. Non ci credete? Anche i segnaposti erano delle scatoline a forma di farfalla, contenenti gli zuccherini bolognesi!! Un po’ di cultura bolognese dovevamo lasciarla ai materani, giusto?

Per concludere, il videomaker Giuseppe, ha montato nel suo sito un breve video di questo bellissimo matrimonio: il viaggio in pullman da Matera, i preparativi, la messa e i festeggiamenti fino al taglio della torta, compresa la zia sul cubo, per chi se la fosse persa!

[ENG] On June 13^th, Robert & Federica said their “I do’s!”.

As promised, the story of Robert and Federica’s wedding ceremony last June 13^th!

For we:plan it will forever be remembered as the first official traditional ceremony of the South! This wedding was unlike any other we’ve organized. The reception was typical of the “long” lunches as seen in Southern Italy. It was truly a marathon of food (even the couple had warned me that it was something that would be very special, but you have to see it in order to believe it!). Every pause between courses was an excuse to get up from the table, dance, congratulate the couple and make a speech or two.

-The dramatic entrance of the couple was shown on a big screen which also showed a video that told their story, from childhood to the day before the wedding to the tune of "Sweet Child of Mine" by Guns & Roses.

- The band: “Saverio Pepe e i timidi” were a hit with guests and everyone got up and danced the night away!!

Finally, the filmmaker Giuseppe Scandiffio, mounted on its site a short video of this beautiful marriage: the bus trip from Matera, the preparation, setup and cutting of the cake to the festivities, including the cube-aunt, for who the was lost!

Le mie cupcakes! – My cupcakes!

[ITA] La pioggia battente di qualche domenica fa mi ha costretta in casa e così ho deciso di sperimentare una delle tante ricette per cupcakes letta sul libro che la nostra cara Emily mi aveva regalato, dopo la “faticosa” esperienza della degustazione di New York.

Mi è sembrato il modo più “dolce” per ringraziarla!

Anche perché, prima di assaporare nuovamente le delizie della Magnolia Bakery, sono certa passerà ancora un po’ di tempo…

Forse è davvero il caso di cominciare a farle da sola, queste cupcakes!

Così, ecco i risultati del mio esperimento.

Mi sono cimentata nella preparazione delle cupcakes alla vaniglia con crema di burro al cioccolato!

Mescola un po’ di classica fortuna del principiante, una semplice ricetta dal libro giusto, la magia del goloso, insomma il risultato è stato notevole!!!

[ENG] With heavy rain the last weekend, I was forced stay in the house and decided to try one of the many recipes for cupcakes in the book that our beloved Emily had given me after the “painful” cupcake experience of my tasting in New York. So before I head back to Magnolia Bakery, I decided to try on my own to make these cupcakes!!

So, here are the results of my experiment. I tried to prepare the vanilla cupcakes with butter cream and chocolate! Mix a bit of the classic beginners luck with a simple recipe from the book and a little delicious magic to create a remarkable result!

Want to try it too? Here are the steps, one-by-one! Have fun!

1) ITA Ingredienti per la base della tortina: burro, farina, zucchero, lievito, latte con un baccello di vaniglia al suo interno per rilasciare l’aroma, uova e un pizzico di sale ENG Ingredients for the base of the cake: butter, flour, sugar, yeast, milk with vanilla bean, eggs and a pinch of salt

2) ITA Accendere il forno a 170° C ENG Turn the oven to 170 degrees C

3) ITA In una ciotola setacciate la farina ENG In a bowl, sift the flour

4) ITA In una seconda ciotola mettete lo zucchero e aggiungete le uova una alla volta formando una crema ENG In a second bowl, put sugar and add eggs one at a time, forming a cream

5) ITA Aggiungere alla crema ottenuta la farina, il lievito, il sale e un poco alla volta il latte aromatizzato alla vaniglia ENG Add cream to the flour, baking powder, salt, and a little by little the vanilla flavored milk

6) ITA Riempite i pirottini con il composto ottenuto. I pirottini devono essere riempiti per poco più della metà! ENG Fill the cups with the mixture. The cups should be filled to just over a half!

7) ITA Informate per circa 40 minuti! ENG Bake for about 40 minutes!

8) ITA Mentre le cupcakes si raffreddano sciogliete a bagnomaria il cioccolato fondente ENG While the cupcakes cool, in a pan melt the chocolate

9) ITA Al burro, unite frullando un paio di cucchiai di panna ENG Add butter, and a couple ablespoons of whipping cream

10) ITA Al composto di burro e panna unite il cioccolato fuso lasciato raffreddare un poco ENG Mix the butter and cream together with the melted chocolate and cool a little bit

11) ITA Mettete il composto cremoso in una tasca da cucina e avanti a decorare le cupcakes! ENG Place the creamy mixture in a piping bag to decorate the kitchen and apply to the cupcakes!

12) ITA Enjoy my cupcakes! ENG Eat and enjoy!!

[ITA] Lo scorso 13 giugno, Roberto e Federica hanno detto il loro sì! Vi ho già presentato i nostri sposi che vivono nella bellissima Matera!

Il loro è stato un matrimonio davvero speciale. Sono così tanti i motivi, che per non perdermeli per strada ve li elenco tutti:

- i nostri due novelli sposini si sono conosciuti su Messenger! La relazione da virtuale è diventata talmente reale che alla fine, Federica si è trasferita nella bella Matera e alla fine si è pure sposata il nostro caro Roberto!

- Roberto è stato anche l’autore di tutti i materiali grafici del matrimonio: partecipazioni, inviti, segnatavoli, biglietti bomboniera, libretto messa.

- I temi del matrimonio sono stati addirittura due: le farfalle nei colori di Messanger, in omaggio al “luogo”, seppur virtuale, dove i ragazzi si sono conosciuti; le immagini acquerellate dei famosi Sassi di Matera e delle Due Torri di Bologna, a simboleggiare l’orgoglio e l’amore per le rispettive città di origine!

- l’allestimento è stato un omaggio alle farfalle: prati verdi rigogliosi di fiori colorati e farfalle!

- gli invitati e il viaggio verso Bologna! Erano più o meno una cinquantina gli invitati materani. Sono arrivati a Bologna a bordo di un comodissimo pullman, griffato da una foto che Roberto e Federica avevano scattato, all’insaputa di tutti (tranne delle loro WP e della bravissima fotografa, Michela) nei mesi dei preparativi. Una versione nostrana dell’engagement photos che tanto va di moda oltreoceano!!

- la cerimonia: la messa è stata celebrata da Don Domenico, amico d’infanzia di Roberto. È stata come una “lunga” (nel vero senso della parola) chiacchierata tra amici!

Per i racconti sulla cerimonia seguiteci la prossima settimana! Vi divertiremo con i racconti della festa tipica di un matrimonio del sud!

Their wedding was very special for so many reasons:

-Our two newly married couple met on Messenger!

- Roberto was the graphic designer for the invitations, favors and the church programs.

-The idea was to combine the butterflies from MSN Messenger, in reference to where the lovely couple met, and the watercolor pictures of the famous Sassi of Matera and the Two Towers of Bologna to symbolize the pride and love for their hometown!

-A tribute to butterflies: lush green fields of colorful flowers and butterflies!

- Guests traveled comfortably aboard a coach designed from a photo that Roberta and Federica had taken, and a surprise to the guests!

-The ceremony was overseen by Father Dominic, a childhood friend of Robert.

[ITA] Lo scorso 13 giugno, Roberto e Federica hanno detto il loro sì!

Una bella avventura che ci ha unito nei mesi di intensi preparativi!

Federica: classe 1977, nata a San Giorgio di Piano, da 7 anni residente a Matera, per amore!

Roberto: classe 1975, nato a Matera (come lui tiene a precisare, i Sassi di Matera sono stati iscritti nella lista dei patrimoni dell'umanità dell'UNESCO), attualmente programmatore, aspirante grafico!!

Il loro è stato un matrimonio davvero speciale.

Vi aspettiamo al prossimo post per raccontarvi la loro festa! Vi salutiamo con lo scatto fatto ai ragazzi prima del matrimonio, foto che è servita ai futuri sposi per personalizzare il pullman arrivato a Bologna da Matera! La stessa foto l'abbiamo scattata anche subito dopo il loro “Sì”!

Their wedding was very special!

Dolcetto o scherzetto? - Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat!

[ITA] E se partissimo dalla fine? Da qualche giorno in molte parti del mondo si è infatti festeggiato Halloween!

A noi piace questa festa perché la zucca, il simbolo che la caratterizza, è fonte di grande ispirazione per allestimenti e ricette golose, anche per un bellissimo matrimonio.

L’arancione riscalda e rallegra gli allestimenti, il suo dolce sapore arricchisce gustose ricette, la sua forma si compone perfettamente con foglie di quercia, bacche e ricci di castagna tipici dell’autunno!

Voi che ne pensate, non trovate irresistibile questa atmosfera autunnale?

E guardate la nostra amica Emily e sua sorella Nicole che belle foto ci hanno mandato direttamente da Orange County - California (USA)…. Stavano cercando le loro zucche per prepararsi a festeggiare Halloween!!! Grazie ragazze!!!

[ENG] Over the last few days, many parts of the world celebrated Halloween!

We love the idea of Halloween and using the pumpkin as the symbol for Halloween has been a great source of inspiration for shows and tasty recipes, including a beautiful wedding!

The color orange is warm and welcoming, it’s sweet flavor enriched with tasty recipes, and it’s shape is made up perfectly with oak leaves, berries and chestnuts, typical of autumn!

[ITA] Brunch a Palazzo

Per rinfrescarvi dal caldo di queste settimane, abbiamo pensato di proporvi il matrimonio di Piero & Chiara, organizzato lo scorso 13 febbraio.

Il desiderio dei nostri sposi era quello di progettare un ricevimento che coniugasse perfettamente formalità e modernità, eleganza e creatività.

Dopo la cerimonia, che si è tenuta nella splendida Chiesa di San Giovanni in Monte, la nostra proposta è stata quella di invitare gli ospiti del matrimonio a un elegante brunch in una suggestiva residenza privata.

A partire dall’invito, raffinato e di grande personalità, realizzato nelle tonalità del bordeaux e del rosa antico, l’intento degli sposi era di comunicare immediatamente il tono e lo stile del ricevimento.

E così lo spettacolo ha avuto inizio.

In un meraviglioso palazzo storico del centro storico di Bologna, abbiamo messo in scena una vera e propria festa del gusto, nei sapori proposti e negli allestimenti. Arredi eleganti e inusuali hanno colpito gli invitati: le tovaglie di seta e i piatti di ceramica - realizzati appositamente da artigiani pugliesi – nelle splendide tonalità del glicine hanno arricchito le tavole del Salone delle Feste. All’antica cornice offerta dai saloni affrescati, si accostavano perfettamente gli arredi moderni, divanetti e cubi dalle linee più rigorose. I vasi luminosi colmi di fiori come la viola ciocca e di foglie di monstera contribuivano a conferire stupore all’atmosfera creata.

Gustose le pietanze che hanno accostato sapori più tradizionali a quelli esotici; favolosi i dolcetti proposti nelle nuance del matrimonio; dissetanti le acque di frutta e basilico e le miscele di the. Una in particolare, creata appositamente per gli sposi, la “Love blend tea n. 13”, servita al brunch e regalata agli ospiti in deliziosi contenitori personalizzati, come bomboniera.

Una torta dalla forma particolare e dalle decorazioni di intramontabile romanticismo hanno deliziato i palati degli invitati che, accompagnati dalle note del jazz suonate da un gruppo di giovani e talentuosi musicisti, hanno goduto della magica atmosfera offerta da questo ricevimento.

To cool the heat of the Italian summer, we present the February wedding of Piero & Chiara, that we organized last February 13.

The focus of the wedding was to design a reception that perfectly combined formality, elegance, creativity and a twist of modern style.

After the ceremony, which was held in the beautiful Church of San Giovanni in Monte, guests were invited to an elegant brunch in a lovely private home.

The invitations were elegant and had great personality. They were made with shades of burgundy and antique pink, and we carried out the style throughout the reception.

And, let the show begin!

In a beautiful historic building in the historic center of Bologna, we staged a veritable feast for the senses. Elegant furnishings: the silk tablecloths and ceramic plates - specifically designed by artisans from Puglia - in beautiful shades of wisteria enriched the tables of the Ballroom. The vases were filled with bright flowers such as purple leaf curl and Monster that helped create an amazing atmosphere.

Tasty traditional dishes were mixed with exotic flavors, fabulous sweets were presented in shades of the wedding colors, refreshing waters, fruit and basil and blends of tea. One in particular, created specifically for the spouses' Love No tea blend 13 ", was served at brunch and guests were provided with delightful custom containers, as wedding favors.

[ITA] Il racconto della nostra futura sposa Elena, orafa per un giorno!

Alla fede nuziale non ho mai dato troppa importanza. L’ho sempre vista all’anulare dei miei genitori: un cerchio dorato, un ricordo di un giorno particolare!

Anche quando James mi ha chiesto di sposarlo – all’incirca 20 mesi fa, in cima a una montagna in Nuova Zelanda, mentre facevamo heliski – l’ultima cosa a cui ho pensato è stata proprio la fede!

Vivendo in Australia e sposandomi in Italia, la mia unica fonte di ispirazione sono state alcune fiere dedicate al matrimonio. Curiosando tra gli stand, un bel giorno, ricordo di aver incontrato una simpatica ragazza canadese che mi ha lasciato il suo biglietto da visita dicendomi di essere un’orafa e che presso il suo laboratorio gli sposi “realizzano” le proprie fedi nuziali. Tutto questo è successo all’incirca 1 anno fa e, nonostante l’idea mi stuzzicasse alquanto, non ero certa che anche James, il mio futuro marito, l’avrebbe trovata altrettanto interessante.

Dopo 11 mesi, invece, eccoci insieme alla gioielleria pronti per scegliere le nostre fedi!

Il negozio-laboratorio si trova all’interno del famoso centro commerciale The Strand Arcade, uno dei luoghi culto per lo shopping a Sydney. The Strand è stato costruito nel 1891 e il suo nome altro non è che un omaggio alla famosa Burlington Arcade a Londra. È un bellissimo esempio di architettura vittoriana con un tetto in vetro assolutamente incredibile.

Tornando però alla nostra gioielleria, è un posto veramente molto particolare e sfizioso. Ora vi spiego: il negozio è praticamente diviso a metà. Da un lato sono disposti tutta una serie di armadietti per custodire i preziosi. Di fronte sono stati sistemati dei comodi divani in pelle. Sull’altro lato del negozio, invece, trovano posto 4 bei tavoli da lavoro, dove c’erano al lavoro 3 persone. Arrivato il nostro turno, abbiamo dato un’occhiata ad alcune tipologie di fedi nuziali e alla fine abbiamo optato per una semplicissima fede in oro bianco. La mia fede, invece, ho voluto arricchirla con alcuni diamanti… così che non sfiguri quando lo posizionerò a fianco del mio luminosissimo anello di fidanzamento!

Dopo aver fatto la nostra scelta, ci hanno spiegato quanto la ragazza canadese mi aveva anticipato ormai più di un anno prima: su questi tavoli di lavoro le coppie di futuri sposi modellano e realizzano le loro fedi nuziali! E proprio le 3 persone che avevamo notato poco prima al nostro ingresso erano una coppia di futuri sposi intenta a realizzare la propria fede, sotto l’attenta supervisione di un orafo.

Conquistati ed emozionati, abbiamo immediatamente fissato un appuntamento per poter essere anche noi “gioiellieri per un giorno”!!!

All’incirca un mese dopo – esattamente lo scorso 2 maggio – io e James eravamo pronti per forgiare con le nostre mani le fedi che presto indosseremo (la data del matrimonio è fissata per il prossimo 24 luglio!).

L’intero processo ci ha preso all’incirca 4 ore e mezza. Una gentilissima ragazza ci ha sapientemente affiancato occupandosi dei complicati calcoli relativi alla curvatura del metallo per forma e vestibilità! Noi, invece, ci siamo occupati del lavoro duro!

Il materiale di partenza erano una barra d’oro bianco e sei diamanti. Per prima cosa abbiamo dovuto appiattire la barra d’oro. Dopo di che, con l’aiuto di un macchinario specifico, abbiamo piegato l’oro per conferirgli la forma dell’anello. Arrivati a questo punto, abbiamo cominciato a lucidare il metallo fino a che non abbiamo ottenuto due scintillanti fedi nuziali.

Naturalmente abbiamo lasciato l’incastonatura dei miei 6 diamanti a mani decisamente più esperte delle nostre!

Quella sera abbiamo celebrato l’evento stappando una bottiglia di Champagne! E sapete qual è la morale di questa storia? Che quando il giorno del matrimonio James indosserà la fede nuziale, sono certa che ripenserà a questa incredibile esperienza e al fatto che l’anello che gli metterò al dito gliel’ho forgiato io con le mie mani!

[ENG] The story of our bride-to-be Elena, jeweller for a day!

Wedding rings, I’ve never really given them much thought. I had always seen my mother and my father wear theirs, a simple gold band with the names of my parents and date of their wedding inscribed on the inside. When James asked me to marry him on top of a mountain whilst helisking in New Zealand almost 20 months ago, the last thing that I was going to think about was the wedding rings.

Living in

Australia

and getting married in

Italy

, bridal shows had only been a source of inspiration and whilst walking around the stalls I met a lovely Canadian lady. She was a jeweller and she gave me her calling card after having explained that her company allowed customers to “make” their wedding rings. This was a year ago and although I loved the idea I was not too sure James, my future husband, was going to be keen on the idea.

Eleven months later I made an appointment at the store and with James and we went to the jewellers. Their shop was more of a fancy workshop located at The Strand in the central business district in Sydney. The Strand was built in 1891 and it’s inspiration came from London’s successful Burlington Arcade. The arcade is lovely with a feeling of the past and has a wonderful glass roof.

The Shop was divided into two, in one corner there were display cabinets with large leather sofas, and on the other side of the shop there were four work benches. James and I had a look at a couple of wedding rings and chose 5mm polished white gold bands, with a bit of bling for mine, this to complement my wonderful engagement ring. We had noticed that their were three people at the work bench when we had walked into the shop, and once we had chosen our rings we were told that those working in the store were a couple with a jeweller showing them what to do. So we went for it and booked an appointment to be "jewellers for the day"!!!

A month later on the 2nd May, James and I made our way to the shop. The whole process took four and a half hours and we had a lovely lady who did all the hard calculations for us… We started with a bar of gold and six diamonds. The first thing we did was to flatten out the square bar of white gold. Then using a fancy machine we bent the gold into a ring shape and soldered it!! Then we started to polish and we polished and we polished it until we had a wonderful shiny ring that fit our fingers. Needless to say, we are leaving the insertion of the little diamonds to the professionals.

We celebrated the end of the event with a bottle of champagne and on our wedding day when I give James his wedding band he will know I made it for him.

Vi avevo anticipato negli scorsi post di quanto a New York fosse forte la passione per le cupcakes… un vero culto!

Ogni occasione è buona per mangiarne una: una pausa per distrarsi sul lavoro, il meritato premio dopo il faticoso jogging oppure il dolce da portare alle cene con gli amici, ma soprattutto come wedding cake per il giorno delle nozze!

In Italia la moda delle cupcakes non è molto diffusa… forse è un problema di gusto per via della crema di burro non proprio di facile digestione! Qui da noi si preferiscono le monoporzioni di pan di spagna, con farcitura di crema chantilly e gocce di cioccolato o frutta in gelatina, decorate e rifinite in glassa di zucchero. Una soluzione che accontenta l’occhio e il palato!

Questa passione per le cupcakes, così colorate e divertenti nelle infinite decorazioni, mi ha sempre incuriosito e così, una volta arrivata a New York ho cercato di approfondire l’argomento. Come? Sottoponendomi all’ingrato compito – soprattutto per i miei fianchi – di assaggiarne il più possibile! E così è stato!

Ho fatto una selezione delle pasticcerie, scegliendo quelle più popolari tra i consigli di amici che vivono in città, dai commenti sulle guide e su siti dedicati oppure visitando quelle apparse in trasmissioni televisive!

Ecco i risultati con le mie personalissime valutazioni! L’ordine è quello cronologico di degustazione!

ELENI’S

Per la mia prima degustazione ho scelto la vanilla pink cupcake, rosa come il logo della pasticceria! Gustosa la crema, anche se effettivamente un po’ troppo burrosa per noi fan della cucina mediterranea. La pasta della cake era morbida e soffice.

La pasticceria si trova all’interno del Chelsea Market – il mercato coperto dove è possibile trovare ogni tipo di leccornia ma solo di qualità - situato a Chelsea, un luogo “architettonicamente” affascinante, nonché ricco di diversità culturali ed etniche.

Lo store di Eleni’s è moderno ed essenziale, molto curato da un punto di vista estetico.

Ampia la scelta di cupcakes, disponibili in vari gusti, decorazioni e colori! Disponibili anche in versione mignon, per chi si vuole concedere solo piccoli peccati di gola! Adorabili i pirottini, personalizzati con il logo della pasticceria!

MAGNOLIA BAKERY

Da Magnolia ho scelto la vanilla chocolate cupcake appena sfornata e decorata. La pasta della cake era davvero gustosa, ma a rendere speciale questa cupcake era la crema di burro al cioccolato, una vera delizia: morbida, saporita e leggera. Una mousse più che una crema!

Lo storico store, immortalato anche in un episodio di Sex & the City, si trova nel Greenwich Village, quartiere che un tempo era il centro della vita bohemien, luogo di residenza di numerosi artisti e crogiolo di diversi movimenti politici. Ancora oggi si respira un’aria di libertà creativa e intellettuale che lo rendono un quartiere unico nel suo genere, anche grazie a una architettura fatta di edifici in mattoni di inizio secolo, strade piccole e strette, piazze animate ed eleganti giardini.

Nella Bakery le lavagne alle pareti, gli articoli incorniciati, il personale sorridente rendono questo locale davvero molto accogliente. Appena entri, si rimane stregati dal profumo è inebriante e - vi confesso - che a questo punto la scelta diventa ancora più difficile.

Oltre alle cupcukes, da Magnolia si possono acquistare torte soffici e appetitose sistemate su alzatine di vetro. Punto di forza del laboratorio: la preparazione a vista delle cupcakes! Incredibile! E tanto per non perdere le buone abitudini di marketing, è possibile acquistare anche numerosi oggetti di merchandising con il logo del negozio!

BILLI’S BAKERY

Per la mia terza degustazione, ho scelto una chocolate cupcake con crema di burro di colore viola. La pasta al cioccolato era morbida, la crema di burro, leggera e gustosa.

Il negozio si trova nella zona di Tribeca, un quartiere ricco di ex magazzini trasformati in lussuosi condomini e moderni uffici. Lo store è seducente, piacevole e accogliente. Sono molto attenti al marketing e al branding (come tutti gli americani!!): ogni dettaglio riconduce sempre al logo: dalla bicicletta in esterno con annesso vano rimorchio, ai materiali di confezionamento, al merchandising in vendita nello store, ai colori usati per la stessa pasticceria. Bravissimi!

Le cupcakes in esposizione sono tante, dai colori e dalle decorazioni tra le più divertenti e gustose che abbia. Anche i box in cartone e le bags sono irresistibili! O mamma mia!!

CUPCAKE CAFÉ

Alla volta della mia quarta degustazione, mi sono buttata su una chocolate cupcake con decorazioni floreali. La maggior parte delle decorazioni di questa pasticceria si ispirano ai fiori che ci sono in natura: rose, calle, ranuncoli, girasoli nei vari colori e tonalità.

La pasta era saporita, un po’ compatta e la crema troppo, troppo burrosa per i miei gusti!

Il negozio si trova in una zona a confine con Chelsea.

Vincente è la formula di cafè con libreria e spazio giochi per bambini annessi: ai bambini è permesso leggere, colorare, divertirsi, gustando per merenda una cupcake. Geniale no?!

Dietro le vetrine del bancone, sistemate nelle lattine di metallo, sono esposte tutte le colorate cupcakes floreali. Scegliere è davvero difficile!

SILVER MOON

Da Silver Moon ho optato per una vanilla pink cupcake: davvero bellissima!!! La pasta mi ricordava molto il Tortino Porretta (i bolognesi sanno a cosa mi riferisco), la crema di burro era soffice e dolce.

Questo forno, famoso soprattutto per le sue baguette sfornate ogni giorno, si trova nel quartiere dell’Upper West Side, ricco quartiere residenziale, storicamente considerato il cuore liberale e intellettuale di Manhattan.

Silver Moon è un negozio accogliente con un’ampia area riservata alla preparazione dei prodotti, naturalmente a vista! Giusto per non avere dubbi sulla provenienza del pane, perché appena viene sfornato, lo sistemano immediatamente nelle griglie della vetrina! Dal produttore al consumatore senza passare dal via!

Anche nel tardo pomeriggio le cupcakes sono allestite nelle lattine di metallo, pronte per i golosi!

SUGAR SWEET SUNSHINE

Dopo 5 minuti di indecisione la mia scelta questa volta è ricaduta su una lemon cupcake, con la gustosa crema di burro al limone e la scorza per la decorazione.

Gusto fresco, sapore intenso!

Questa pasticceria del Lower East Side – area che agli inizi del XX secolo ospitava milioni di immigrati appena sbarcati in città e che oggi è caratterizzata da una vita sociale dinamica e molto intensa - propone in ingresso una grande lavagna su cui sono indicati i motivi per cui è importante mangiare una cupcake. Davvero curiosi! Se si varca la soglia e non si ha voglia di leggere, basta infilare dentro il naso, respirare il buon profumo e ammirare le tante e diverse cupcakes esposte nelle vetrine del bancone per decidere di fare una sosta golosa da Sugar Sweet Sunshine! Dopo la mia scelta combattuta, mi sono gustata la cupcake nel salottino informale e accogliente allestito nella pasticceria. L’atmosfera è vivace, perché la pasticceria è frequentata da un pubblico giovane e simpatico.

Fuori concorso… Guggenheim Museum

A testimonianza di come il culto sia diffuso, anche il Guggenheim non poteva sottrarsi dalla vendita delle cupcakes, che si sono rivelate indispensabili durante una pausa della visita al museo!

Beh ora mi è un po’ più chiaro questo amore per le cupcakes… e voi che dite?

New York had a strong passion for cupcakes ... a cult-like passion for cupcakes.

There is always a good occasion to eat: a break from work to distract the deserved reward after the hard jogging or after dinner with friends, but mostly as a wedding cake for the wedding day!

In Italy the fashion of cupcakes is not very common ... maybe it's a matter of taste because the butter cream just isn’t easy to digest! Here we prefere slices of sponge cake with whipped cream and chocolate chips or fruit jelly, decorated and finished with icing sugar. A solution that pleases the eye and the palate!

This passion for cupcakes, so colorful and fun in the endless decorations, has always intrigued me, and so, once in New York I had to try them.

How? To taste as many as possible! I made a list of cupcake shops, choosing among advice from friends who live in the city, from the comments on the guides and on websites, or visiting those that appeared in famous TV shows!

Here are the results with my highly personalized reviews! The order is chronological tasting!

ELENI'S

For my first taste test, I chose the vanilla cupcake pink, rose as the logo! Tasty cream, though actually a bit 'too buttery for us fans of Mediterranean cuisine. Dough cake was soft and fluffy.

The bakery is located in the Chelsea Market - the covered market where you can find every type of delicacy but of quality – it is located in Chelsea, a place "architecturally" fascinating and rich in cultural and ethnic diversity.

Eleni's is modern and simple, a very nice aesthetically.

A wide selection of cupcakes, available in several flavors, decorations and colors! Also available in miniature, for those who don’t want to indulge in gluttony!

MAGNOLIA BAKERY

At Magnolia I chose the vanilla chocolate cupcake freshly baked and decorated. The dough was very tasty, but to make this special cupcake was the chocolate butter cream, a treat: soft, tasty and light. A mousse rather than a cream!

The historic store, immortalized in an episode of Sex & the City, is located in Greenwich Village, a neighborhood that was once the center of bohemian life, place of residence of many artists and melting pot of different political movements. It still breathes an air of intellectual and creative freedom that make a neighborhood unique, thanks to the architecture made of brick buildings, small and narrow streets, lively squares and elegant gardens.

In the bakery, there are blackboards on the walls, framed items, smiling staff that makes this place very cozy. Just by entering, one is enchanted by the scent and it’s intoxicating and - I admit - at this point the choice becomes even more difficult.

In addition to cupcakes from Magnolia, they also have soft and tasty cakes that can be purchased mounted in glass. In the laboratory you can see bakers preparing all the marvelous cupcakes! It’s incredible! And due to good marketing, you can buy numerous items of merchandise with the logo of the shop!

BILLY'S BAKERY

For my third tasting, I chose a chocolate cupcake with butter cream color purple. The chocolate dough was soft. The cream butter, however, was light and tasty.

The shop is located in Tribeca, a neighborhood full of former warehouses converted into luxury condominiums and modern offices. The store is attractive, pleasant and welcoming. The logo brings in every detail from the shop: from the bicycle and outdoor space with attached trailer, materials packaging, merchandising for sale in the store, the colors used for the bakery. Great!

The cupcakes on display are many, colors and the decorations are the most fun and tasty I have even eaten and the cardboard boxes and bags are irresistible! O mamma mia!

CUPCAKE CAFE

By the time I reached my fourth taste testing, I jumped on a chocolate cupcake with floral decorations. Most of the decorations on these cakes are inspired by flowers that are in nature: roses, callas, ranunculus, sunflowers in various colors and shades.

The dough was tasty, a little 'compact and the cream too much, too buttery for my taste!

The shop is located in an area bordering Chelsea.

The winning formula is the cafe with library and children's playground attached: Children are allowed to read, paint, having fun, enjoying a cupcake for tea. Clever, no?!

Behind the windows of the bar, placed in metal cans, are all the colorful floral cupcakes on display. Choosing is hard work!

SILVER MOON

At Silver Moon I opted for a vanilla cupcake pink: very beautiful! The dough reminded me of a Tortino/Pie Porretta (the Bolognese know what I mean), cream butter was soft and sweet.

This oven, best known for its baguettes baked daily, is located in the Upper West Side, wealthy residential neighborhood, historically considered the heart of Manhattan's liberal and intellectual.

There is no doubt about the origin of where the bread is baked because, the system is in the grids of the window! From producers to consumers without going through the street!

Even in the late afternoon, the cupcakes are arranged in cans, ready for the hungry and greedy!

SUGAR SWEET SUNSHINE

After 5 minutes of indecision, I chose a lemon cupcake, with a tasty butter cream and lemon rind for decoration. Fresh, intense flavor!

HIS pastries Lower East Side area - that in the early twentieth century housed million immigrants just landed in town and is now characterized by a very busy social life, suggests a large input blackboard which contains the reasons why it is important to eat a cupcake. Once you cross the threshold, the wonderful smell of cupcakes hits you. You can also enjoy the many different cupcakes on display in the windows of the bar to help make your decision! I enjoyed the cupcake in the informal and welcoming living room set up in the bakery. The atmosphere is lively, because the bakery is frequented by the young and cute New Yorkers.

Out of competition ... Guggenheim Museum

As evidence of how widespread the love for cupcakes are, even the Guggenheim could not escape from selling cupcakes, which proved vital during a break Ono's visit to the museum!

Well now I have a cleared up this love for cupcakes ... what do you say?

How many exhibitors did participate? Which categories of exhibitors were present?

115 participants, in categories like accessories, beauty/health, cake designers, dance studios, DJs and bands, dresses, favors, florists, jewelry, menswear, photographers and videographers, planners and event designers, registry, rentals, stationers, venues and caterers, and more (media, ice cream, dry cleaning, etc..).

Who were the main recipients of the fair?

Smart, upscale city brides-to-be, as well as Bridesmaids, Grooms, and Mothers-of-the-Brides.

The fair was “only” three hours long, in Italy a fair lasts normally a full day at least. I found really convenient to shorten the exhibition time. Is this a consolidated and usual formula for this type of fairs?

Some events like this take place a full day or over a weekend, it just depends on the particular showcase. For the past three years, we have found a consolidated timeframe on a weekday evening to be the most convenient for our brides and vendors.

Which are the latest and newest tendencies of weddings in NYC?

In terms of bridalwear, we are seeing a lot of airy gowns with exaggerated skirts, sparkly details, and elegant draping. Alternatives to the standard veil are also popping up, including hats, headbands, and statement jewelry. Also, for flowers this season, we are seeing a lot of lush greenery with stems like eucalyptus, ferns, bay leaves, and ivy.

Which ones were the most attractive and original exhibitors according to your opinion?

All of the exhibitors brought something unique to the event.

Do you think this type of wedding fair are useful for the wedding planners too since the bride/groom to be have the opportunity to directly interact with the suppliers/exhibitors?

Definitely- planners can meet new clients that perhaps they haven’t had a chance to work with before and develop new contacts, as well as get inspiration and new ideas of up-and-coming trends.

In Italy it is not a very common to request the professional presence of a wedding planner…is it different in NYC area? People are more willing to put the organization of their wedding into the “highly professional hands” of a wedding planner?

Yes, in New York City it is very common to have wedding planners. Many brides-to-be appreciate having a professional to help ease some of the stresses of planning the big day. Brides and grooms are often willing to hire a wedding planner given their daily schedules and all the details that must go into making their wedding perfect.

Ecco il racconto di Silvia:

Vi immaginate un matrimonio alle 14:30 di pomeriggio di un sabato a inizio agosto? Un incubo, certamente, per il caldo afoso dell'estate al suo zenit.

A meno che non venga celebrato nella fredda città di Varsavia, dove anche il 9 agosto le temperature non superano i 20° C al sole e all'ombra è freschino.

È quello che è successo a me, quando nell'agosto 2008 sono stata invitata al matrimonio dei miei due amici, Maria e Janek. La sposa, Maria, detta 'Marysia' (un vezzeggiativo che potremmo tradurre con 'Marietta'), l'avevo conosciuta nel 2004-2005, quando eravamo vicine di stanza allo studentato “Hubertusallee” a Berlino, durante il nostro semestre Erasmus.

Tra gli invitati c'erano anche altri stranieri: una coppia francese, una belga, e una ragazza greca. Io e la ragazza greca, Nancy, in quanto prive di accompagnatore maschile, facevamo coppia.

Quali le differenze con i nostri matrimoni?

Innanzitutto, l'orario e il giorno in pieno agosto, abbiamo detto, piuttosto improponibili in Italia.

Ma anche la durata: in Polonia i matrimoni vengono celebrati uno dopo l'altro, il prete ne celebra uno ogni mezz'ora. Di conseguenza, la sposa non può assolutamente arrivare in ritardo, e infatti arriva insieme allo sposo. Se arrivasse in ritardo rischierebbe di sposarsi con lo sposo programmato per la mezz'ora successiva!

In chiesa le cose non sono molto diverse, visto che anche lì il rito è cattolico e, anche senza sapere la lingua, sapevo quando alzarmi o quando mettermi a sedere senza bisogno di seguire gli altri. Appena fuori dalla chiesa, però, un'altra differenza. La sposa e lo sposo devono ricevere baci, congratulazioni e regali da ogni singolo invitato, rimanendo in piedi fuori dalla chiesa tutto il tempo necessario. Al matrimonio di Marysia e Janek c'erano almeno 150 invitati, per cui la fila si snodava oltre il lato della chiesa, incrociandosi con la fila del matrimonio precedente, che non aveva ancora terminato questo rituale. La madre di Marysia le stava a fianco con un ventaglio e una bottiglietta d'acqua, perché dopo il cinquantesimo bacio ricevuto e il cinquantunesimo dato, la povera sposa stava per svenire e aveva in volto un sorriso stampato un po' alla joker.

Quindi, concluso questo rito faticoso sia per gli sposi sia per gli invitati, una navetta ci ha portato fuori città, al ristorante “Il vecchio mulino”, situato nella campagna varsaviese. Lì ci attendevano - ahimé, noi ignari, non lo sapevamo ancora - dieci ore di fila di pranzo/cena: dalle 18 alle 4 di notte! Prima di cominciare, il benvenuto a base, naturalmente, di vodka, per gli sposi e per gli invitati, da parte dei camerieri e dello staff del ristorante. Una prova attendeva però gli sposi, e consisteva nel seguente test: le rispettive madri offrivano loro due bicchierini, all'apparenza identici, contenenti entrambi un liquido trasparente. Dentro uno, però, c’era acqua, dentro l'altro vodka. Al 'via' impartito dalle madri, i due sposi dovevano scolarsi il liquido trasparente tutto d'un fiato. In Polonia, tradizione vuole che a chi dei due tocchi la vodka, tocchi anche detenere lo 'scettro' del potere in casa e nella famiglia. Nel caso dei miei due amici, è toccato a lui, Janek, e mi è venuto il dubbio che fosse stato pilotato dalla madre di lui, nonché suocera di Marysia.

Così è iniziato il banchetto e anche le danze. I tavoli erano disposti a ferro di cavallo in una stanza molto grande, lasciando al centro lo spazio per le danze, appunto, che hanno intervallato tutta la serata tra una portata e l'altra. La musica era la più varia, spaziando dai lenti americani, ai lenti polacchi, alla musica da discoteca americana, a quella - piuttosto spaventosa - da discoteca polacca. Ecco un'altra differenza rispetto ai matrimoni (almeno a quelli a cui ho assistito io) italiani: tutti ballavano, senza distinzione d'età, dagli amici, ai genitori, ai nonni compresi, che anzi, erano tra i più arzilli.

A noi amici 'erasmus' era riservata un'ala del tavolo con menù in inglese: dopo una portata di affettati, formaggi e tramezzini vari, è stata la volta della zuppa patate e cipolla, poi di un piatto tipico piuttosto pesante a base di carne, quindi della torta a mezzanotte in punto (quella, piuttosto classica alla frutta). Alle due c'è stata al grigliata a buffet in giardino, per cui è stato obbligatorio alzarsi dalla sedia a cui eravamo semi-incollati e dirigerci all'esterno, e alle quattro altro round di dolci.

Ma non tutti gli invitati hanno resistito fino all'ultima portata. I più stoici, inopinatamente, erano proprio i nonnetti polacchi, abituati a shots di vodka uno dopo l'altro come fosse acqua fresca e a cui brillavano gli occhi nel danzare canzoni d'altri tempi. Infatti, ad accompagnare le multiple portate, c'erano tre bicchieri, che venivano continuamente riempiti dai camerieri efficientissimi: uno, grande, per l'acqua, un altro per il succo d'arancia, e uno più piccolo per la vodka. Nessun bicchiere per il vino. Alle dieci e mezzo di sera Stephan, un ragazzo tedesco amico dai tempi dell'erasmus dello sposo, era in bagno a rimettere, e non ne è uscito che al mattino trasportato di peso dagli amici nella navetta che ci ha riportato a Varsavia. Evidentemente la rinomata capacità di reggere la birra dei tedeschi non è sufficiente per reggere un numero equivalente di bicchieri di vodka!

Dopo la torta c'è stato anche il tradizionale lancio di rito da parte della sposa, ma non del bouquet, bensì del velo. Non solo, a seguire è stato il turno del lancio della cravatta da parte dello sposo.

Ultimo particolare: per danzare con gli sposi, in Polonia, si paga! C'è proprio un piattino dove si lasciano offerte per fare un giro di ballo con lo sposo o la sposa e contribuire così al loro futuro assieme. Al matrimonio di Marysia e Janek lo sposo era il più gettonato, e io sono riuscita solo a ballare per metà canzone quando mi è stato portato via da una agguerrita e attempata dama. Beh, così è la vita.

What would you think if you were invited to a wedding at 2:30 pm on a Saturday at the beginning of August? You would probably think that the bride and the groom had an interest in killing some of their guests with the help of 40° C and 90 % humidity of the Italian August!

But things would be different if the wedding had taken place in cold

Poland

, where even in the summer temperatures are rarely above 30°C in the sun, and you need a jacket in the shade, and anyway generally the weather in

Poland

is unpredictable.

This is what happened to me in 2008, when I was invited to Warsaw to attend the wedding of my friends Marysia and Janek. I have known Marysia since 2004, when we spent a semester together in Berlin, living in the same residence as Erasmus students. After 2004, we have seen each other three times: once when I had visited her in Warsaw, together with my French friend Ludivine and my Greek friend Nancoula (Nancy), and the second when they visited me in Bologna, and the third when Marysia and her future husband Janek stopped by in Bologna to say hi during their vacation in Tuscany.

Marysia and Janek's wedding was therefore the third occasion for an 'Erasmus' reunion and to share the joy of our friends. My French friend, Ludivine, was also invited and came with her fianceé (now, husband), my Belgian friend Wouter came with his fiancé Sara, and I went alone. Together with my Greek friend Nancoula, who also came alone, we were the third 'international' couple.

Polish priests (they are catholic, like in

Italy

) are pretty busy with celebrating weddings on Saturdays in August. Indeed, they have a really tight schedule, celebrating four or five wedding in a row in the same afternoon! That's the reason why the bride cannot be late, otherwise she’d run the risk of being paired with the following groom! Polish brides, however are different from Italian ones, in that they are always on time. Also, they arrive together with their groom, in the same car (at least in the case of Marysia and Janek). Guests like us were waiting for them outside of the church.

The ceremony was very similar to Italian catholic ceremonies, so I didn’t need to look at what the other (Polish) guests where doing to know when I had to stand up or to sit down during the mass.

Then, after the mass was over, a weird ritual (to my Italian eyes) took place, as Marysia and Janek were to receive kisses, congratulations and presents took place from each of the guests, while everyone was standing outside of the church for more than one hour!

At Marysia and Janek's wedding there were at least 200 guests attending the ceremony in the church, and the line of people waiting to congratulate to the newlyweds was so long it was almost going round the corner of the church. Poor Marysia, after the 50^th kiss given and the 51^st kiss received, she had reddish cheeks and a printed smile on her beautiful but tired face, and her Mum was standing next to her with a bottle of water providing some essential refreshment.

After the congratulation ritual was over, a shuttle took us to the countryside outside of Warsaw, to a restaurant called “Stary Młyn”, or “The old mill”. Marysia and Janek arrived a little bit later with their old beautiful Pontiac car from the 1920s.Their mothers were waiting to welcome them with another Polish ritual, just before entering the restaurant. The ritual turned out to actually be the following 'challenge': the mothers (Janek’s mom – Ewa, Marysia's mom - Zosia) offered the young couple two small glasses filled with a transparent liquid: one filled with water, the other with vodka. Marysia and Janek had to drink it all in one go. Polish custom says, who drinks the vodka will have the “power” in the house and in the family! In the case of my friends, the power went to Janek...But having known Marysia for quite a long time, I know she has a hidden talent for exercising her own power!

After this ritual, the feast started. It would be a ten-hour long feast, from 6 pm until 4 am! Between one course and the next, the music was playing, and everybody was dancing. And when I say everybody, I do mean 'everybody'! Not only young people, but also middle-aged people and even old people were dancing passionately slow dances as well as disco music (curiously enough, I also got to listen to some Polish disco music).

As for the drinks, there were three glasses in front of each guest, which were constantly being refilled by some very efficient waiters: one for water or orange juice/coke, one for wine, and a smaller one for vodka, of course! Polish people apparently can drink vodka like Italians can drink wine and as German can drink beer, which says a lot on the quantity of vodka that Polish people are able to drink while remaining sober! (By the way, one of the German friends of Janek thought he could drink vodka as if it were beer, but he was mistaken, and at 10:30 pm he had to run to the restroom because he felt sick, and spent the rest of the night there).

At midnight Marysia cut a beautiful cake decorated with red roses, and then the traditional 'good-luck throw' by the bride took place. But in

Poland

it's not flowers which are being thrown, but the bride's veil. After Marysia, it was Janek's turn to throw something, in that case, his tie.

Last interesting piece of Polish culture that I learnt at this wedding: you have to pay to dance with the bride or with the broom! No kidding. I was kind of stunned when Janek's best man came up to me with a dish inviting me to leave the money in order to have one dance with Janek, but actually I then found it a nice, original and funny way to contribute to the future of the newlyweds. When it was my turn, I could dance with Janek only for half a slow dance, when another older lady took him away from me! Both he and Marysia were really good fund-raisers, and dancers, that night.

The following morning the shuttle brought us back to Warsaw, where I left to go back to

Italy

later in the morning, with basically no sleep at all, bringing with me a full stomach and a heart full of beautiful memories.

[ITA] All’evento newyorkese erano presenti alcune curiose realtà che vi voglio presentare!

Basta davvero poco per essere originali e colpire con brillanti idee!

Bisogna avere il coraggio di mettersi in gioco e osare! L’intraprendenza è sempre premiata, almeno al di là dell’oceano.

Se la vostra preoccupazione è creare armonia tra gli ospiti che spesso e volentieri hanno provenienze e interessi differenti, beh, ecco la soluzione per “rompere il ghiaccio” e per creare tra loro un po’ di complicità.

Elana di Melangerie ha trovato un modo simpatico e divertente di risolvere questo problema. Come? Realizzando degli alberi genealogici degli invitati: una rappresentazione grafica dei loro legami rispetto agli sposi.

Noi l’abbiamo trovata un’idea semplicemente geniale! Perché? Quante volte vi è capitato a un matrimonio di porvi la domanda… “ma chissà chi è questo bel ragazzo al tavolo con Susanna”, oppure “ma chissà questa signora che parla con la sposa chi sarà, la zia o l’insegnante di tango?”.

Bene con questa idea, ogni curiosità potrà essere soddisfatta!!!

Se l’idea del segnaposto continua a darvi il tormento perché non sistemare sui tavoli piccoli vasetti di vetro con le rare foglie di tea e fiori naturali lavorati a mano che sbocciano deliziosamente una volta infusi? Un’idea davvero insolita e che i vostri ospiti potranno gradire con gli occhi – sono sempre splendide composizioni – ma anche nel gusto, perché queste miscele di the bianco o verde sono davvero una squisita bontà!

Infine gli americani hanno trovato anche il modo di chiudere in bellezza anche il ricevimento! Se qualche sbadato, e succede spesso, con un passo di danza troppo avventato sporcasse ahimè l’abito della sposa?

Non vi preoccupate, un’azienda specializzata nella pulitura di capi di abbigliamento offre un fantastico kit di emergenza per la sua pulitura! A ogni macchia il suo specifico prodotto… e lo sbadato di turno avrà salva la serata!

Questo evento newyorkese mi ha proprio convinto e ci ha dato una bella iniezione di originalità e voglia di rinnovarci!

Prima o poi anche qui da noi gli intraprendenti avranno il giusto riconoscimento. Noi li stiamo cercando e catalogando, in attesa di proporveli sulle pagine di questo blog.

[ENG] The New York magazine event brought together many great companies and great ideas that we want to share with you!

If your worried about seating arrangements and creating harmony among your guests who often have different backgrounds and interests, we found the perfect solution to the problem of how to "break the ice". Elana of Melangerie created a funny and fun way to solve this problem. How? Creating a family tree of the guests: a graphical representation of their ties compared to the spouses.

We found this idea simply brilliant! Why? How many times have you been to a wedding and asked the question ... " who knows who is that handsome guy at the table with Susanna?" or " who knows that lady who speaks is speaking with so-and-sos wife?” Well with this idea, every curiosity your guests have about one another is satisfied!

If the idea of place holder continues to trouble you because you don’t know what to do, try this idea. Put small glass jars with rare tea leaves and beautiful flowers in bloom around the tables. Its unique and unusual and your guests will not only enjoy the beautiful display, but also the taste because these mixtures of white or green tea are absolutely delicious!

And finally, Americans have come up with a great idea to help easy the worry of something happening to your beautiful white wedding dress. A company specializing in cleaning clothes has come up with an emergency kit for brides. A tool that will definitely save the day!

This event inspired left me with so many great, different and orginal ideas, and I feel reengerized and ready for summer!

[ITA] Alla ricerca di una sofisticata eleganza.

A ispirare le ambientazioni del ricevimento di nozze è stato il bellissimo abito scelto da Jovanka: un abito color champagne della collezione di Aimée, ispirato alla magia delle opere del pittore Giovanni Boldini.

Eleganza, leggerezza e tratti raffinati. Siamo partite da questi elementi per sviluppare il tema del matrimonio. Per prima cosa era fondamentale realizzare delle partecipazioni di nozze in stile e per le quali abbiamo studiato una grafica dedicata, ispirandoci ai ricami dei tessuti e dei broccati del primo Novecento. Le partecipazioni sono il biglietto di presentazione dell’evento e conferiscono immediatamente agli ospiti il tono del ricevimento.

Il ricevimento si è tenuto in una splendida villa del bolognese, una magnifica dimora di campagna che con i suoi affreschi e il fascino del suo parco secolare sono state la perfetta cornice di questo evento.

Per la festa abbiamo declinato il tema grafico delle partecipazioni sui toni del glicine, vero colore di passione per la sposa, studiando nei dettagli ogni particolare dell’apparecchiatura. Dalle bellissime tovaglie in raso che risaltavano incredibilmente sul prato verde, ai deliziosi segnaposti – sacchettini creati all’uncinetto dalla mamma di Jovanka – che contenevano i gustosi zuccherini bolognesi. Dal tableau de mariage nella sua semplice composizione sui toni del viola alla bellissima idea del menù, trasformato per l’occasione in un segnalibro. Ci piace proporre questa idea perché gli invitati potranno conservare per lungo tempo il ricordo di una cena speciale.

Nel caso di Luca e Jovanka, la cena sarà comunque ricordata a lungo perché la preparazione dei piati era stata affidata all’estro e alla creatività del giovane chef stellato Alberto Faccani.

Una festa indimenticabile per i due sposi e per tutti i lori ospiti, damigelle comprese!

[ENG] Sophisticated elegance.

The location for the wedding was inspired by the beautiful dress Jovanka chose, a champagne-colored dress from Aimee's collection, and by the magic works of painter Giovanni Boldini.

Elegance, lightness and sophistication were the elements we used to style the wedding. First, we wanted to achieve this style in the wedding invitations and incorporate the design from the invitations throughout the rest of the wedding. The designs were inspired by the embroidery of fabrics and brocades of the early twentieth century.

The reception was held in a beautiful villa high up in the hills of Bologna. The breathtaking country house with its frescoes and its beautiful old park, were the perfect backdrop for this event.
For the reception, we incorporated the design from the invitations and infused it with different shades of mauve, for the bride, this signified the true color of passion. You can see the use from the beautiful satin tablecloths that stood out on the incredibly green grass, to the delicious candied place settings - crocheted bags created by Jovanka’s mother - containing tasty Bolognese treats, to the tableau de mariage with its simple use of the different shades of purple and continuing to the beautiful idea of the menu, transformed for the occasion into a bookmark. We loved this idea because guests can keep for a long time to remember the special day.

In the case of Luke and Jovanka, this dinner will also be remembered in part by the creativity entrusted in young star chef Albert Faccani. A truly unforgettable party for the newlyweds, guests and the bridesmaids!

New York weddings event - part one

[ITA] Lo scorso 7 Aprile a New York ho partecipato a un evento dedicato al matrimonio davvero molto interessante: New York weddings event, una manifestazione promossa dal New York Magazine, uno dei settimanali più leti nella Big City.

La manifestazione si è svolta nella splendida cornice del Metropolitan Pavillion - un loft sulla 18th Street in direzione west. La cosa che più mi ha incuriosito è stata la formula di questo evento: rispetto agli eventi dedicati al matrimonio che solitamente siamo soliti visitare in Italia, questo si svolgeva in sole 3 ore! Davvero bizzarro per noi wp italiane abituate a fiere che arrivano a durare anche una settimana!

Ma la mia curiosità è stata presto colmata: "A New York nessuno ha tempo da perdere!".

Accolta all’ingresso con un calice di bollicine, ho cominciato emozionata la mia prima visita a una fiera del wedding a stelle e strisce! L'evento ha ospitato quasi un centinaio di espositori selezionati. Tutte le categorie sono state adeguatamente rappresentate: fotografi, pasticceri, location, catering, atelier, gioiellerie, ecc.. e ovviamente non potevano mancare le colleghe wedding planner!

Ogni espositore ha allestito con grande gusto ed eleganza il suo spazio. Nel poco tempo a disposizione era importante andare a segno con eleganza e originalità.

Mi ha colpito la presenza massiccia di aziende dedicate alla categoria "stationery", ovvero le partecipazioni di nozze e in generale tutta la parte grafica legata al matrimonio: dal save the date ai ringraziamenti, dai menù ai segnaposto. Sarà che sono un'accanita sostenitrice di progetti grafici personalizzati - cerco sempre di orientare le mie spose in questa direzione perchè sono anche questi i dettagli che raccontano la propria storia - ma è stato un piacere per gli occhi ammirare le tante proposte suggerite, tra le svariate carte, decorazioni e grafiche tutte una diversa dall’altra.

Grande attenzione è stata data anche alla bellezza e alla forma fisica, che a differenza dell'Italia non sono legate solo al "trucco e parrucco". Qui bellezza significa anche fitness e chirurgia estetica. E mi raccomando, non si può trascurare il sorriso che deve essere davvero smagliante! Numerosi erano i centri per lo sbiancamento dei denti, che consegnavano a tutti i passanti un primo dentifricio di prova… della serie provare per credere.

Molte erano anche le pasticcerie con le loro monumentali wedding cake. Posso confermarvi che qui in America continua ad imperversare la "cupcake mania" anche per il giorno delle nozze. Guardate che meraviglia questi dolci capolavori. Tornerò comunque sull'argomento cupcakes perchè ho deciso di immolarmi alla causa e approfondire la faccenda, assaggiandone il più possibile.

E infine il tocco di glamour per le spose newyorkesi: gli accessori per rendere l'acconciatura davvero speciale. Cerchietti decorati con piume o strass, pettinini con nastri e fiocchi o ancora velette con fiori. Il velo qui non è più di moda e i fotografi impazziscono per i preziosi dettagli da fotografare!

Anche io non ho resistito e mi sono acquistata due meravigliosi cerchietti che indosserò ai miei prossimi matrimoni!

[ENG] On April 7th, I attended an event dedicated weddings in New York "New York weddings event", an event sponsored by New York Magazine.The event was held in the splendid Metropolitan Pavilion - a loft on 18th Street towards the West. The thing that most intrigued me was the formula of this event, an event dedicated to weddings that only took place for 3 hours! Here in Italy, we we:planners are used to the events lasting all week!

But alas, this is the city that never sleeps and "New York has no time to lose."

At the entrance of the event, I was greeted with a glass of bubbly and excited to start my first visit American wedding event! The event hosted nearly one hundred specialized exhibitors for everything you’d need for the perfect wedding; photographers, confectioners, location, catering, workshops, jewelers, etc. and obviously the fellow wedding planner!

Every exhibitor prepared their space with great taste and elegance that it was hard not to stop at every single booth. In the short time available, it was important to score with elegance and originality.

I was struck by the massive presence of companies dedicated to "stationery" or the wedding invitations and in general all the graphics related to marriage, from save-the -dates to thank you cards, to the menu placeholder. I always try to steer my wives in this direction because these are details that tell their story - but it was a feast for the eyes to admire the many proposals that, among several cards, decorations and graphics were all different from each other.

Great attention was also given to beauty and fitness, unlike Italy, which are not related only to "makeup and wigs." Here it also means fitness and beauty and cosmetic surgery. And please, you cannot ignore that every bride needs a beautiful white smile! I was amazed at the many centers for whitening teeth!

There were also bakers with their monumental wedding cake. I can confirm that here in America the "cupcake craze" for the wedding day is still all the rage. Look at how wonderful these sweet masterpieces of perfection are. I will return to the matter of cupcakes because I decided to sacrifice myself understand this phenomenon by tasting as many cupcakes as possible.

And finally, what would New York be without a touch of glamour for the New York brides? Accessories to make your hair really special. Headbands decorated with rhinestones or feathers, combs with ribbons and bows, or veils with flowers. The veil is no longer here and fashion photographers go crazy for precious details to photograph!
Even I could not resist and I bought two wonderful circles that I’ll wear at our next weddings!

Qui Firenze | Hidden Florence

[ITA]… qui Firenze… anche da noi è scoppiata la primavera… non vogliamo certo essere da meno rispetto a New York, giusto!?

Finalmente la vostra inviata fiorentina doc vi racconterà delle bellezze della sua terra e dei luoghi magici per il vostro SÌ!

“Fiorenza” si sviluppa lungo le due sponde dell’Arno e le sue bellezze Rinascimentali sono rinomate in tutto il mondo. Per questo ho pensato che in questo Blog non voglio esaltare ciò che tutti già conoscono. Cercherò, piuttosto, di raccontare una Firenze insolita e sconosciuta, dove le coppie di innamorati potranno vivere momenti magici e romantici. Stupendosi ancora di una città che tutti credono di conoscere!

Uno dei luoghi meno conosciuti in città - ma per questo non meno suggestivo dei noti ai più - immerso nel verde delle colline circostanti, è il Parco Mediceo di Pratolino - Villa Demidoff.

L’antica tenuta della fine del 1500 fu acquistata dalla famiglia ucraina dei Demidoff ed oggi è di proprietà della Provincia di Firenze.

L’ingresso al parco è gratuito e l’itinerario delle stradine sterrate si interseca fra boschi e prati con distese di margherite e fiori gialli di tarassàco.

Che meraviglioso luogo magico e romantico!

Io credo sia un luogo perfetto per esempio per un servizio fotografico di fidanzamento. Una moda molto diffusa all’estero, che qui in Italia non ha ancora preso piede. Ma questa è un’altra storia e ne parleremo in un prossimo blog, così ci direte che cosa ne pensate!

Nei prossimi giorni scenderemo a valle ….. siete pronti a scoprire nuovi e inaspettati “gioielli” fiorentini?

Be surprised of a city that everyone believes to know!

One of the less known places in town - but not least suggestive of well-known to the most – in the nearby green hills, is Parco Mediceo di Pratolino - Villa Demidoff: this old seal built by the end of 1500 was bought by Ukrainian Demidoff but today is owned by the Province of Florence.

The entrance to the park is free and the itinerary of the roads intersect among woods and meadows with daisies and yellow flowers of dandelions.

Then, suddenly .... here to peep the colossal statue of Gigante dell’Appennino made by Giambologna (the same who made the Neptune statue in Bologna), exciting sculpture that overlooks a lake where some discreet and quiet lotus flowers sail (foto allegata) ...

What a wonderful magical and romantic place!

I think this is a perfect place for an engagement photo shoot. A new fashion abroad that here in Italy has not yet taken hold. But that's another story and we'll discuss in a later blog, so you tell us what you think!

[ITA] Dal 24 al 27 aprile, Bologna diventa capitale della pasta, ospitando un Salone dedicato alla pasta e al mondo che le ruota attorno. Un universo di conoscenze, esperienze e sapori che da oggi confluisce in un unico, grande evento, che mai nessuno prima d’ora aveva pensato di organizzare: PastaTrend, la prima mostra sulla regina delle tavole.

Riduttivo racchiudere il concetto nella parola fiera. PastaTrend vuole, infatti, essere il punto di riferimento internazionale per affermare il primato italiano del processo produttivo che permette al chicco di grano di diventare pasta. Un percorso affascinante che si snoda dai campi alla tavola.

{ITA} Un matrimonio dal sapore medievale

Massimo e Dina sognavano un matrimonio particolare: ricreare una ambientazione dal sapore medievale per trasmettere ai loro ospiti la loro passione per questo periodo, ricreando l’atmosfera di quei tempi, fatta di storia e di magia.

Atmosfere di un lontano passato, che abbiamo abbinato a un gusto più attuale e moderno.

La prima importante selezione è stata la sede del ricevimento, fondamentale per poter ricreare la giusta atmosfera. Così abbiamo individuato un agriturismo immerso tra le colline dell’Appennino bolognese. In queste terre coperte di vigneti, uliveti e alberi da frutto si trova questo splendido borghetto medievale, ristrutturato con gusto ed eleganza, perfetta cornice per il matrimonio di Massimo e Dina.

Il gusto più moderno è stato mantenuto nelle scelte del menù, nei tovagliati di seta color pervinca e nella morbidezza delle mille rose che hanno completato l’allestimento.

L’intrattenimento è stato un omaggio al passato. Ci siamo rivolti ad un gruppo di professionisti di rievocatori storici con i quali abbiamo allestito nella corte del borgo un vero e proprio campo medievale attrezzato: una grande tenda arredata con rastrelliere per sistemare le armi, il letto matrimoniale ricoperto di pelli, sedie, tavoli e bauli che hanno calato gli ospiti nella vita quotidiana dei combattenti del Medioevo. I dodici figuranti - uomini, donne e bambini - hanno accolto in abiti civili dell’epoca gli increduli invitati, che hanno subito utilizzato il campo come inusuale set fotografico.

Dopo il taglio della torta, un banditore ha convocato nel cortile gli sposi e gli ospiti per dare inizio al torneo: veri e propri duelli con spada, scudo e lancia. Al vincitore, l’onore di augurare a Massimo e Dina tanta felicità per il loro matrimonio.

Massimo and Dina dreamed of having a different type of wedding: giving their wedding a medieval taste and letting their guests live out their passion for those times made of history and magic.

For their special day, we wanted to create a "Once upon a time," with a few modern touches.

The first important decision was selecting the perfect place for the reception. With their ideas, we found an agrotourism “agriturismo” hidden up in the hills of the Bolognese Appenines. The rolling hillsides covered with vines, olive groves and fruit trees there helped create a splendid Medieval village.

We added the modern touches in the menu choices, in the silk periwinkle napkins, and the softness of the thousand roses that completed the table settings.

The entertainment was a homage to the past. With a historical reenactment of the era, we worked with a professional group who was able to decorate the courtyards of this village, giving it a real medieval feel: a huge tent was equipped with racks to accommodate the weapons of the time, a king sized bed covered in leather, chairs, tables and benches that made the guests feel as if they were living the daily lives of soldiers in the Middle Ages. The twelve actors – men, women and children all wearing clothes of the era - welcomed the incredulous guests who immediately turned this village into a set for a photo shoot.

After the cutting of the cake, all the guests and the newlyweds joined a tournament: real duels with swords, spears and shields. To the winner went the honor of wishing Massimo and Dina happiness in their future.

Dis moi oui

La scritta è applicata a mano sull'ankle strap dei sandali con cristalli Swarovsky.

Perfette con un abito corto che ne valorizza la linea.

[ITA] Come annunciato, eccomi arrivata a New York City… e come potete vedere la mia gioia è proprio incontenibile!
Ma la mia fortuna non è finita… in città è letteralmente SCOPPIATA la primavera, risvegliando la natura dal torpore dell'inverno!
I profumi delle magnolie in fiore ad ogni angolo della città inebriano i sensi.
Sui grattacieli si riflette una luce fortissima che contrasta con il blu del cielo e con i colori di questa magica stagione.

Guardate in Central Park i ciliegi in fiore... davvero uno spettacolo per gli occhi e per il cuore, non siete d'accordo con me?

La primavera a New York è uno spettacolo meraviglioso: sono proprio una spettatrice privilegiata!

Ma oltre a godere della gioia di questi paesaggi, non mi sono dimenticata dei motivi che mi hanno portato a volare oltreoceano!

Andspring has literally exploded in the city, nature has awoken from the "blahs" of winter!

The scents of magnolia blossoms on every corner of the city is intoxicating, and the strong contrast of the light reflecting the blue sky off the skyscrapers and the colors of this magical season is incredibly fantastic.

The cherry blossoms in bloom in Central Park are truly a feast for the eyes and heart, don't you agree? Spring in New York is absolutely wonderful, and I'm feel so lucky to be here!

In addition to enjoying the joy of these landscapes, I haven't forgotten the reasons that led me to fly across the Atlantic!

{ITA} Il matrimonio a km 0

Luca ed Erika desideravano un ricevimento semplice e colorato, da organizzarsi all’aria aperta, nel pieno rispetto della natura.

È da questa richiesta che siamo partite per progettare un colorato matrimonio a KM 0.
Il banchetto di nozze è stato organizzato con ingredienti freschi, prodotti dall’agriturismo che ci ha ospitato o nelle sue immediate vicinanze. Per le decorazioni floreali abbiamo privilegiato la margherita, un fiore semplice e di stagione. In chiesa era composta in soffici sfere, calate dal soffitto, che sembravano galleggiare nell’aria della pieve romanica, regalando alla cerimonia un’atmosfera magica.

Al ricevimento il tema floreale era sempre la margherita, ma il vero protagonista è stato il colore. Le piccole piantine di margherita, nei vasetti di ceramica colorata nelle nuances del viola, decoravano le lunghe tavolate. Ad ogni tavolo era stato assegnato un colore differente, ripreso dalle tovagliette sistemate per ogni ospite e dai menù-segnalibro utilizzati come simpatico segnaposto.

La filosofia del km 0 l’abbiamo applicata all’intero evento: abbiamo cercato di ottimizzare al meglio i trasporti scegliendo location vicine e facilmente raggiungibili; l’agriturismo selezionato ha fornito molti dei prodotti poi degustati agli invitati; abbiamo optato per i fiori di stagione e per l’allestimento si è deciso per materiali biodegradabili o di produzione locale.
Un’eccezione c’è stata, su richiesta degli sposi: la scenografica torta a piani.
Noi abbiamo chiuso volentieri un occhio. Volete darci torto?

Luke and Erika wanted a simple reception, one full of colors and held outdoors during a wonderful warm summer afternoon.

It was this request that got us thinking about doing a KM 0 or Eco-friendly wedding. We organized the wedding with fresh products from the agriturismo that we located for the reception. For our flower arrangements we decided on daisies. Not only are they a simple flower that you can make stunning but they also hold up very well during the hot Italian summers. We used the daisies inside the church and the reception, to create an amazing summer look.

Inside the church we used the daisies to create soft round bulbs that dropped from the ceiling. This created a floating look inside the Romanesque church, giving the ceremony an even more magical feeling.

The floral arrangements for the reception we used the daisy to create a beautiful center pieces in different sizes around the reception tables. The real star of these center pieces was the color. Small daisy plants in ceramic pots of colored in shades of purple, decorated the long tables. Each table was assigned a different color, taken from the mats placed for every visitor and we created love-themed bookmarks as the menu placeholder.

We applied the philosophy of KM 0 to the entire event. We choose local suppliers close to the reception site. The agriturismo provided many of the local food products for the cocktail hour and dinner, as well as the local wines, fruits and vegetables.

We choose seasonal flowers, and used biodegradable materials or materials that were locally produced.
There was an exception, at the request of the spouses: the spectacular cake plans.

How could we say no!?
